Golfers persist through highs and lows

“We didn’t have much practice under our belt with the blizzard last Wednesday and Thursday and a golf course that still had snow drifts on it Friday,” golf coach Nick Flaa said. Nevertheless, the Holyoke High School team embraced the great weather April 15 and competed at the Wray Invitational.
Golfing on the varsity Monday were Brenna Sullivan, Traeli Hutches, Ciera Schelling and Amy Mackay. HHS continues to have golfers battling for the four varsity positions, and it changes weekly.
“The four girls that go to regionals is wide open at this point, which is a great problem to have,” Flaa said.
In Wray, Sullivan finished fifth with a 97. She started strong, shooting a 42 on the first nine holes but ran into some trouble late in her round. Performing like the experienced golfer she is, Sullivan kept her cool and managed another top-five finish. It’s her third time to do so in the four tournaments attended so far this season.
Flaa said that some of the shots Sullivan is hitting couldn’t be any better. Cleaning up her short game and working on overall consistency will be the aim as she heads into the second half of the season.
