Holyoke sees tight competition at home April 26

Last week the Holyoke High School girls golf team competed in two back-to-back tournaments, seeing close finishes in both. On Thursday, April 26, HHS hosted its first of two home events. Then on Friday, April 27, the team traveled to Yuma, where HHS senior Grace Dille took first among individual varsity scores.
Team results last Thursday showed Yuma in first with a 310, followed by Cheyenne Wells 329, Burlington 332, Brush 334, Holyoke 336 and Wray 343. As coach Nick Flaa pointed out, the race for second place was incredibly close. That didn’t come as much of a surprise as the teams have been neck and neck throughout the season.
On an individual level, Brenna Sullivan tied for eighth with a 108. Dille tied for 11th, 111; Regan Van Overbeke tied 15th, 117; and Dominique Penzing finished 20th, 125.
Golfing that day was a challenge with 40 mph winds, and Flaa reported that none of the golfers were really happy with their round. “The game of golf is as much mental as it is physical, and both were tested to the fullest,” he said.
