Soon to undergo major renovation with new flooring, bleachers, scoreboards and more, the Holyoke High School gymnasium will take on a new look. Gym renovation timelines addressed by school officials
In any renovation project, timelines are only a projection, but in COVID times, it’s even harder to pinpoint specific dates.
The renovation of the main gym at Holyoke JR/SR High School is a prime example of this.
Reporting at the Dec. 10 school board meeting, Superintendent Kyle Stumpf noted that when they decided to move forward with the gym renovation in August, Colorado High School Activities Association had announced four sports seasons.
With volleyball moved to the spring, and basketball and wrestling postponed to a January start, it looked like being without a gym until the end of 2020 could work into a good timeframe.
But then there were delays in the manufacturing of bleachers, and a new person within the company was assigned to this project.
It appeared that while the project would be delayed, at least the gym would be in tact for January basketball games and wrestling matches before the project started.
Then on Dec. 6, an announcement was made that winter sports practices would not begin until Jan. 25. That could most definitely conflict with the gym renovation.
