Haxtun gives Lady Dragons a run for their money

Holyoke came away the victor in a grueling five-set match at home with Haxtun on Friday, Sept. 2.

The first two sets were lopsided in Holyoke’s favor, 25-15 and 25-16. The girls were really making plays and putting down the ball, said coach Irene Ortega.

Sets three and four were close, but Haxtun won both 25-23. Ortega said there was some miscommunication on the court and more service errors than in the first two sets.

But the Lady Dragons handled it well, readjusted and moved forward, said Ortega, adding that they focused on controlling the things they could control.

The Lady Dragons pushed themselves and won the final set 15-12 to win the match.
