Herman tops shot put

Lauren Herman led the Holyoke girls shot put team to victory last Friday, May 3, at the LPAA/YWKC League Meet in Yuma.
Herman won the event, earning a season best distance of  37’10.75”. Fellow throwers Correy Koellner and Emali Torres locked down the podium with second- and third-place finishes, respectively. The three currently sit among the top five on the state 2A division leaderboards, according to MaxPreps.
Coach Corey Koberstein attributed the girls throwing team’s many successes throughout the season to the camaraderie and support that exists between all of the teammates.
Also bringing home the gold for Holyoke were Taeryn Trumper, Aaron Sierra and Luis Chafino in the long jump, 300 meter hurdles and pole vault, respectively.
Koberstein also said the team kept its cool, despite the fact that the meet was the second-to-last chance to qualify for events at state, and recognized the boys relay teams for their continuing efforts to cut times.
Yuma girls led their nine-team field with 148.5 points, followed by Wray 140, Holyoke 102.5, Akron 70, Merino 70, Haxtun 63, Sedgwick County 54.5, Caliche 52 and Wiggins 21.5.
