HHS is 2-0 after Wray doubleheader

Dragon baseball players started their season off March 19 with a pair of wins over Wray at home. The first game of the afternoon was a narrow 6-5 win for HHS, but the second game of the doubleheader ended after six innings, 16-6.

Holyoke 6, Wray 5
It was hard to say who would come out on top in Monday’s first game between Holyoke and Wray. Neither team scored in the first inning, and there was no early indication of who had the upper hand.
In the second inning, HHS defense held Wray scoreless. Back at bat, however, the Dragons put the first run on the board. Wray went on to tie the game in the third inning with a run of their own, but Holyoke added two more runs for a 3-1 lead.
The fourth inning was a repeat of the third, with Wray adding one run and Holyoke two, widening their lead. In the fifth inning, Wray didn’t score at all, but HHS managed to add another.
In a game that had been fairly low-key so far, the sixth inning had fans at the edge of the seats. With just a 6-2 lead, Holyoke gave up three runs, and Wray was within striking distance. Holyoke didn’t manage any runs in the bottom of the inning, so the score remained close going into the final inning of the game.
