HHS boys wrestle well at Stratton Invitational

Only three Dragons ended up competing in the Stratton Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Feb. 2, but they represented Holyoke well.
Jesus Trejo won his first first-place medal of the season at 145 lbs., and Deacon Dittmer placed third at 152.
Coach Parker Redfern said the team wrestled extraordinarily well Saturday. He cited the high level of improvement since the first of the season. “It was quite the payoff for a coach to see,” he added.
Trejo wrestled aggressively and was very coachable, said Redfern. His tourney championship is a great morale booster heading toward postseason action.
Dittmer pulled a couple of tough opponents, but went out and wrestled aggressively, according to the coach. He had three nice wins, making the matches his.
Andy Lopez drew some tough kids at 182 lbs. but wrestled tough. In the match that he won, he showed a lot of offensive moves that they’ve practiced in the room. “It was a fun match for a coach to watch,” said Redfern.
Yuma won the Stratton tourney with 180 points, followed by County Line 124.5, Sedgwick County/Fleming 109.5, Holly 90.5, Lamar 67, Byers 48.5, Holyoke 36, Kiowa 36, Calhan 33, Wray 31, Limon 30, Cheyenne Wells 26, Colby, Kansas, 19, Baca County 18, Tribune-Greeley County, Kansas, 13, Hanover 7, Stratton 4 and Las Animas 1.
