HHS football is 6-0 for first time in 17 years

Holyoke-Burlington matchups on the gridiron have ended in Cougar victories for the past five years, but the visiting Dragons ended that streak Oct. 11 with a 35-18 win. Being undefeated so far in the 2019 season would be reason enough for HHS to celebrate, but rising above a program like Burlington makes it even sweeter.

Coach Dusty Sprague pointed out that this is also the first time Holyoke football has been 6-0 in quite some time. In fact, the last time the Dragons saw such a record was in 2002, when Sprague was a senior member of the team himself. The second most recent 6-0 record was achieved by the undefeated 1995 state championship team. It’s worth mentioning that assistant coach Aaron Sprague played on that team.

Today’s Dragons, it seems, are in good company.

Other North Central league games Oct. 11 saw Wray beat Wiggins 16-13 and Limon shut out Yuma 37-0.

In the 35-18 Holyoke-Burlington game, the Dragons got the action started with a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Miles Sprague to Seth Watson. Alexis Vega’s PAT kick was good, and HHS took a 7-0 lead with 8:51 on the clock.
