HHS girls basketball brings home a victory
HHS girls basketball defeated Merino 38-19 on the road Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Coach John Baumgartner said the team had a slow start to the game, but came back strong in the second half. Holyoke led throughout the game.
First quarter started out slow for both teams. Holyoke managed only six points while Merino made three. Emily Jelden contributed a 3-pointer, Taeryn Trumper shot for two and Kaylee Camblin added a free throw.
A sluggish second quarter resulted in another six points with Grace Dille putting up four and Camblin two for a 12-6 lead at the half.
In third-quarter action, both teams rallied with the Dragons putting up 15 points to the Rams’ 10. Razo netted a trey while Trumper scored three 2-pointers to lead the HHS scoring.
Holyoke stayed strong in the fourth quarter, outscoring Merino 11-3 to win the game 38-19. Dille went two for two from the line and put up another four points to lead the Dragon scoring effort for the quarter. Merino lost momentum in the fourth, scoring only one 3-pointer.
Dille led in scoring with 12 and snatched 16 rebounds, followed by Trumper with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jelden helped with five assists and two steals.
