HHS girls basketball defeats Fleming

It was an exciting season home opener as HHS girls varsity basketball defeated Fleming 51-34 Saturday, Dec. 2.
“Fleming is a good team and it felt good to get the win,” said coach John Baumgartner. He pointed out that the team is doing well, but there is still work to be done.
Starting out slow in the first quarter, the Dragons scored only six points to the Wildcats’ 10. Fleming freshman Kendyl Kirkwood was on fire, scoring eight of the team’s 10 points.
Moving into the second quarter, the Wildcats kept their momentum going early, but the Dragons rallied to score 21, with five players putting up points. “We had a great second quarter — it was our best quarter yet this season,” said Baumgartner.
Taeryn Trumper and Grace Dille each scored six points with Dille going four for four from the line. Savannah Burris shot two 2-pointers, Sarah Razo added a trey and Emily Jelden netted two free throws. The Dragons closed out the first half with an 11-point lead, 27-16.
