HHS hosts 7 teams for golf tournament

Though the weather March 28 wasn’t ideal, seven determined high school golf teams competed in the Holyoke tournament, and HHS finished third. As a team, Otis took first place with a +99, followed by Yuma +111, Holyoke +118, Cheyenne Wells +125, Brush +137, Burlington +161 and Wray +165.
Among the 24 total varsity contenders, Holyoke’s Brenna Sullivan and Traeli Hutches tied for ninth place, each shooting a 109. Also on the HHS varsity squad, Amy Mackay carded 116, which was a personal best for 18 holes. Ciera Schelling finished with 127.
“Playing in difficult weather conditions makes it really hard to get better and learn,” coach Nick Flaa said. “When conditions are the way they were, it becomes a battle of mental toughness.” As the season continues, he is looking forward to circumstances that lend themselves to more teaching and overall enjoyment of the game.
