HHS puts in work at Sheridan tourney

Holyoke High School softball played four games in a varsity tournament in Sheridan, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, winning two, 14-8 and 6-2, and losing two, 3-4 and 7-15.
Dragons played Cedaredge; Lewis-Palmer High School, Monument; Eagle Valley High School, Gypsum; and Abraham Lincoln High School, Denver. Games were limited to one hour and 15 minutes each.
Coach Sherman Kage said he thought the team’s first tournament went well, despite some difficult losses.
“There were a few errors that cost us a run or two against Eagle Valley and Cedaredge, otherwise I think we could have walked away with a first place trophy,” he said. “But all in all it was a great weekend. The girls played some great, great softball.”

Holyoke 3, Cedaredge 4
Holyoke’s first tournament game was dominated by pitching and fielding. The score was kept low, and neither team scored in the third or fourth innings.
Cedaredge eked out an early lead, with runs in the first and second innings, and was able to answer a fifth inning push by Holyoke to clinch the game
Batting for Holyoke, Sirissa Casady hit a triple; Lauren Herman, a double; and Molly Brown and Gabi Gordon, a single.
    Casady led RBIs with two.
Brown and Herman each stole a base.
Sarah Razo pitched the game, facing 20 batters. She struck out three, walked one and gave up four earned runs on six hits.
