HHS shuts out Caliche – twice

It’s no surprise to hear that a 16-0 win and a 3-0 win were the result of two distinctly different games. Hosting Caliche on April 13, Holyoke High School baseball had the chance to show its adaptability, sweeping the doubleheader. “It’s great to see the guys win two different styles of games,” coach Sam Distefano summarized.
Victories were celebrated, but there’s still plenty of season left, and the entire coaching staff is looking for things that will make them an even better team. As has been the goal all year, the Dragons want to play their best baseball at the end of the season.

“When you score 16 runs, obviously everyone is contributing,” Distefano said of Saturday’s first game. Every athlete in the Dragon roster saw playing time during the 16-0 win.
In a word, Holyoke was efficient. The game lasted just four innings due to the mercy rule. Distefano commended Blake Mosenteen, who pitched the entire game, for his exceptional performance on the mound. He faced 15 batters, striking out three, walking one and giving up only one hit.
At bat, HHS showed efficiency as well. With runners successfully put into scoring position, the Dragons went on to score one run after another. In the first, they scored four, followed by six, two and four runs in subsequent innings.
Mosenteen and Jesus Trejo each had three runs, and Slaten Burris, Seth Watson and Caleb Deaver posted two apiece. Additional runs were scored by Miles Sprague, Kaison Kinnie, Hunter Bergstrom and Cade Killin.
Trejo hit a triple. Sprague had two doubles, and Mosenteen, Burris, Watson and Deaver each hit a double as well. Singles were hit by Mosenteen, Watson, Trejo, Bergstrom and Killin. Watson also posted three RBIs; Burris and Trejo two each; and Alexis Vega, Deaver, Bergstrom and Killin one apiece. Mosenteen, Watson and Deaver each managed to steal a base, too.
