HHS splits doubleheader
Saturday, April 29, the Holyoke baseball team played its final regular-season conference games, splitting the doubleheader with Yuma. Holyoke won the first game, 3-0, but Yuma made a comeback and secured a win in the second game, 10-0.
Holyoke 3, Yuma 0
Holyoke’s Caleb Deaver started game one on the mound, and Dragon defense made the first three outs look routine. In the second half of the inning, Yuma kept Holyoke from scoring as well.
Brendan Mayden led off the second inning with a single. Mauro Morales also hit a single and earned two RBIs before being picked off.
After two innings, the score was 3-0. Morales hit singles again in the fourth and sixth innings. Tristan Sullivan hit one in the fourth, and Blake Mosenteen hit one in the fifth, but they were all left on base.
Fortunately, Holyoke held Yuma at 0. In the 6 1/3 innings Deaver pitched, he faced 29 batters. He struck out three, walked four and allowed five singles.
Mayden went in to pitch the final two-thirds of the seventh inning, striking out one of the two batters he faced.
The Dragons 3-0 victory was the 16th win of the season.
