HHS splits doubleheader with Sedgwick County

Holyoke High School’s baseball team saw its first loss Saturday, April 8, in Ovid against the Sedgwick County Cougars. The first game of the doubleheader ended 3-8, but the Dragons came back in the second game to beat Sedgwick County 6-2.
Coach Sam Distefano cited some early mistakes in the first game as the reason for their loss. From the middle of that first game and on throughout the second, he said the team settled down and started playing Holyoke baseball.

After one inning of Saturday’s first game, each team had one run on the board. Sedgwick County pulled ahead in the second, scoring 4 runs and bringing the score to 5-1.
Holyoke didn’t manage another run until the sixth inning, when they scored 2, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, as the Cougars had scored 2 and 1 runs in the third and fourth innings. The final score was 3-8.
