HHS takes 4th at Bob Smith Invite

    Seven Holyoke wrestlers competed well in the Dec. 15 Bob Smith Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Wray to earn 82.5 points for fourth place out of 15 teams.
    Coach Dusty McConnell cited the improvement from the previous week’s tournament, which opened the Dragon season.
    “Overall improvement from week to week — that’s how we’ll grow to reach regionals,” McConnell said.
    He was especially pleased with the wrestlers’ take-down combinations leading to pinning combinations. In a majority of the matches wrestled by HHS, the wins were by pins.
    Those pins made a huge difference in team scores, as the Dragons finished one point ahead of St. Francis, Kansas, and two points ahead of Akron.
    Two Dragons finished second and two others placed third to earn medals at the Saturday tournament.
