HHS takes second at home
The majority of the Holyoke High School girls golf team finished their season with a home tournament Monday, May 14. As a team, HHS varsity finished second with a score of 316. They were narrowly beat by Yuma’s 315.
As they finished the season’s last home round, it was also the last of their high school career for four HHS graduates. Anna Jelden, Regan Van Overbeke, Grace Dille and Dominique Penzing began golfing as freshmen, the same year coaches Marcia Dalton and Nick Flaa started.
Having spent the last four years together, Dalton said it’s bittersweet to see the seniors go. Throughout that time, Flaa pointed out, the program has grown in popularity, with new athletes trying out golf each season. Part of that growth, he suspects, is due to the seniors commitment to and enthusiasm for the sport.
