HHS in the thick of district tournament
Holyoke High School and the five other teams that make up District 2 of Colorado 2A basketball have begun the 2019 district tournament. First-round games were played Feb. 19, and the remainder of the tournament will take place at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling on Thursday, Feb. 21, and Saturday, Feb. 23.
From District 2, the top four teams will advance to regional competition March 1-2. Champions from each of the eight districts will be seeded 1-8 based on RPI and will host the regional tournaments. The winner from each of those eight tournaments will advance to the state tournament March 7-9 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The eight qualifying teams will be reseeded prior to state by a committee using the following criteria: final RPI ranking, previous district match-ups, head-to-head competition and common opponents.
Girls district schedule
HHS girls (No. 3) were scheduled to play Akron (No. 6) in the first round of the district tournament Feb. 19 at home. Wiggins (No. 4) hosted Sedgwick County (No. 5), and Yuma (No. 1) and Wray (No. 2) had byes for the first round.
Day two of the tournament is Feb. 21 at NJC, and Yuma will play the winner of the Wiggins-Sedgwick County game at 3 p.m. At 6 p.m., Wray will play the winner of the Holyoke-Akron game.
The winners of Thursday’s two games will advance to district finals Feb. 23 at NJC. The championship game is scheduled for 11: 30 a.m., and the third-place game will be played at 8:30 a.m.
