HHS track runs in Stampede meet

Team scores may not have shown it after Saturday, April 22, at the Platte Valley Bronco Stampede meet in Kersey, but HHS track had a great day, according to coach Dusty Sprague.

“We didn’t place like we normally do, but a lot of kids achieved personal records at the meet,” said Sprague.

The coach said that both Emily Jelden and Luis Chafino achieved personal bests in pole vault, and the girls 4x800 meter relay team, consisting of Jessy Mosqueda, Jelden, Josie Herman and Brook Prottsman, chopped nearly 20 seconds off its previous best time.

In addition, athletes saw different competition than usual, with several teams from Weld County and the Front Range area, and the meet’s setting had a feel similar to the state meet. Sprague said both are good preparation for the team at this point in the season.
