HHS travels to Meeker for first round of football playoffs

No. 11 Holyoke will travel to No. 6 Meeker for the first round of 1A state football playoffs Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m.

Holyoke football lost the regular season finale to Yuma 29-13 on the home field Friday evening, Oct. 29, but has still earned the right to play in the postseason.

Yuma scored two touchdowns in the first half to lead 15-0. The Dragons threw an interception and lost a fumble in the game, but they found the end zone twice in the second half. The Indians also scored two second-half touchdowns to come away with the 29-13 win.

Coach Dusty Sprague said there were a lot of positive things to take away from the game against Yuma, and the team is ready for playoff action against Meeker.

“Everyone is at zero and zero in the playoffs,” Sprague said, “and we have a chance to go make a run at things.”

He noted that the game against Yuma featured two good teams and that Yuma battled really hard to make the playoff field.

Sprague added that the Dragons will keep stressing attitude, technique and effort. “Those are the things that take you a long way in high school football,” he said.
