HHS volleyball beats Sedgwick County, falls to Wiggins

    Last week, Holyoke High School volleyball players found themselves on the road twice. An Oct. 16 game at Sedgwick County ended in the Dragons winning 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17). Hosting HHS on Oct. 19, Wiggins won 3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 22-25, 25-21).

    The Dragons jumped ahead early in last Tuesday’s game against Sedgwick County, winning the first set of the evening 25-14. With the advantage, HHS worked hard for a 25-19 win in the second set.
    Keeping things interesting, the Cougars put their best foot forward in set three and pulled off a narrow 25-23 victory. Not to be outdone, the Dragons rose to the challenge, winning set four 25-21 and claiming the match.
    As a team, HHS boasted good serving across the board. Emma Roll had five aces in 20 attempts, Emily Jelden had four in 17, and Kaylee Camblin had three in 19. Jelden also led in digs, racking up 10.
    Kristin Vieselmeyer was the team’s lead attacker in Tuesday’s game. She had 42 attacks with 12 kills. Taeryn Trumper led serves received with 19, and Camblin was the lead ball handler. She had 21 assists to kills in her 126 attempts. Josie Herman posted the team’s only block of the game.
