High school track brings home YW ribbons
Holyoke tracksters had their eyes on the finish line at the Tuesday, May 2, Yuma-Washington Invitational meet in Yuma.
“We’re at a point in the season where it’s our last chance to work out qualifying marks and times,” said coach Dusty Sprague. “It’s about shaving off a tenth of a second or getting that extra quarter of an inch. We’ve only got three meets left after this to reach our goals before state.”
Top performances for the girls individual events included Taeryn Trumper’s first-place finish in the 100 meter dash and Taylor Hendrix placing second in the 100 meter hurdles.
For girls relays, Brook Prottsman, Josie Herman, Trumper and Emily Jelden placed first in the 4x100 meter relay; Jelden, Trumper, Kyra Loutensock and Prottsman second in the 4x400 meter relay; and Jacky Mosqueda, Herman, Trumper and Jelden second in the 800 meter sprint medley.
In boys individual events, Jose Prieto placed second in the 100 meter dash and also second in the 200 meter dash. Blake Mosenteen was third in the 100 meter dash and also third in the 400 meter dash.
Luis Chafino, Mosenteen, Alex Strauss and Prieto placed second in the 4x200 meter relay, and Chafino, Mosenteen, Strauss and Edwin Cruz second in the 4x400.
