Holyoke baseball season ends in loss at regionals

Holyoke High School baseball’s 2017 season came to an end Sunday, May 21, with a 17-5 record.
Inclement weather last weekend pushed the 2A regional/state baseball tournament games back a day, and games got started Saturday. Holyoke faced Rocky Ford Sunday, ultimately losing 2-10, and they were eliminated from the tournament.
Sedgwick County, Yuma and Haxtun also represented District 2 in the tournament and were eliminated in the first round.

Playing as the home team, Holyoke sent Caleb Deaver to the mound to get the action started. Rocky Ford managed a few hits, but only four batters got to make plate appearances before Dragons got three outs. They caught one stealing, shortstop Blake Mosenteen caught a fly ball, and Deaver struck one out.
Leading off, Mosenteen hit a single but was caught trying to steal second. Two more at bats ended in two more outs, and Holyoke headed back to the field, the game scoreless.
In the second inning, center fielder Brenden Kage caught a fly for the first out. Number two came in the form of a sacrifice bunt. Rocky Ford managed one run before second baseman Tristan Sullivan fielded a grounder for the third out.
