Holyoke boys top home track meet, girls take fifth

At the Holyoke Invitational on Saturday, April 8, the Holyoke Dragons boys placed first, and the Lady Dragons took fifth, bringing together what Coach Jacinda Distefano called “a spectacular job.”

“We had a great home meet,” she said, “with firsts across the board in all of the sprints and some big wins in the field events.”

Most of the track team who placed first broke their record, adding to the 31 overall, broken personal records.

The throwers made some new personal bests. Freshman Courtlynn Kinnie improved her discus record by throwing 85 feet and 6.5 inches , placing sixth; right behind senior Elise Krogmeier, who placed fifth by throwing 89 feet and 8.5 inches. Sophomore Tyler Bergstrom placed fifth in shot put, throwing 34 feet and 9.25 inches. Jadon Frost followed behind Bergstrom, placing seventh with a throw reaching 33 feet and 11.75 inches.

The distance runners made multiple improvements to their times. Isaac Cummings cut an entire minute off his 2-mile time – 13:38.82 – placing third. Isaac raced to eighth place in the mile, cutting 30 seconds off his previous time with a 6:21.01. Freshman Teagan Martin placed first in the mile run, holding a 10-second cut from his last run, making 5:14.62, his new personal record.
