Holyoke, Colby both looking for their first win this Friday

HHS football is preparing for its third nonleague game of the season. This Friday, Sept. 9, the Dragons will host Colby, Kansas, at 6 p.m. Neither team has won a game yet, so both are going into the contest looking to get that first W.

Also on the schedule for Holyoke football is a JV game in Haxtun on Monday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. Many of the underclassmen on Holyoke’s and Haxtun’s teams already saw each other on the field in last week’s varsity competition.

Playing in Holyoke on Sept. 2, the Bulldogs won 50-32. The Dragons made numerous impressive plays but also suffered from some unfortunate turnovers. Overall, Haxtun had a very strong running game, which was hard to compete with.

Holyoke sophomore Trey Oakley drew first blood Friday, catching a touchdown pass in the first quarter. Haxtun ran in a touchdown, tying up the score at 6-6. A pick 6 and an accompanying 2-point conversion put the Bulldogs ahead 14-6 going into the second quarter.
