Holyoke girls face triple losses on the court

While the Holyoke girls basketball team continues to find ways to put points on the board, a bite from the injury bug has not helped the team’s cause.

Holyoke suffered losses last week to Haxtun, 37-50; Yuma, 19-49; and Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, 18-41.

The Dragons were missing the services of senior Elise Krogmeier for a second week and Nicole Schlachter missed most of the week as well.

In a bit of good news, freshman Courtlyn Kinnie has returned from a volleyball injury.

Holyoke Head Coach Arlan Scholl liked his team’s effort.

“We played hard at Haxtun and Yuma, but just struggled with our scoring enough that we could not get the wins,” he said.

The Dragons faced Haxtun on the Bulldogs’ home court Tuesday evening game before back-to-back trips to Yuma and Pine Bluffs.

“I feel like the back-to-back road trips to Yuma and then Pine Bluffs really took a toll on us physically and mentally at Pine Bluffs,” Scholl said, adding the excessive heat in the Pine Bluffs gym also was hard on our players.

“All excuses aside, we just need to keep on working hard and improving,” he said.
