The Holyoke girls golf team made the most of their final home invite of the year, taking the team title by two strokes over Brush on Thursday, May 5.

As is typical this time of year, it was a busy week around the school.

Holyoke head coach Nick Flaa said the week was a good lesson in understanding student comes first in student-athlete, and he was pleased his team stepped up to defend its home turf for its fourth tournament win of the year.

“It’s always fun playing your home course; there is a level of confidence and trust you play with hitting certain shots,” Flaa said.

It didn’t hurt that the day started as a cool, damp morning but turned into one of the best days the girls have had yet for competition, he added.

As she did at the Yuma Invite, Sabryn Burris led the Dragons with a third-place finish.

Washington County’s Kendall Velder won the tournament with a score of 92, and Brush’s Haley Ostwald was second after shooting 96.

Burris was close behind with a final score of 100, which tied with Washington County’s Mary Dracon.
