Holyoke High School softball 16 strong

A strong high school softball team has returned to the field in Holyoke, and the team of 16 is led by nine experienced returning letterwinners.
Back for his fourth year as head coach, Sherman Kage said that last year the young team didn’t have as much experience, and it was a learning year for everyone. This year, they intend to take their 2016 experiences and grow as a team.
Senior letterwinners are Rebecca Owens, Regan Van Overbeke and Julia Casady of Sedgwick County; juniors Gabi Gordon, Brooke Schneider of Sedgwick County, and Haley Mavis and Molly Brown of Haxtun; and sophomores Sarah Razo and Shianne Willmon.
Also on the team are seniors Corinne Raffaeli of Sedgwick County, Anna Jones of Haxtun and Alyson Lenhart; sophomores Sirissa Casady of Sedgwick County, Lauren Bergner and Lali Marquez; and freshman Haley Van Overbeke.
Players have been taking intentional steps to become more successful this season. Several participated on the Thrashers summer team, which played about 35 games. Kage also noted that Haley Van Overbeke and Razo have been working one-on-one with a pitching instructor. Being on the younger end of the team, they’re looking to get several good years in.
“I’m very excited for the season,” Kage said. “I think we’ll be very competitive.”
