Holyoke sluggers turn around Flatirons nailbiter

Fans in Holyoke were on the edge of their seats for the varsity baseball game against Flatirons Academy on Thursday, April 13. The game was tied from the bottom of the third to the top of the sixth, when first the Bison pulled ahead and then the Dragons. In the end, the home team pulled off a thrilling 13-8 win.

Staying focused and continuing to make plays when they’re down hasn’t always come easy for this team, but this was a strong week for the Dragons.

Coach Jimmy French said, “I was really happy to see us come back and win a game that didn’t start off well for us. The other team came out really strong, but we bounced back and kept making plays until we could get the win. It was a good experience for us.”

Following the varsity game, the JV teams faced off for five innings. Flatirons won the contest 9-5.

The Dragons were scheduled to play in Caliche on Tuesday, April 18. See next week’s edition of the Enterprise for a recap. Next up, Holyoke will host Merino for a doubleheader Saturday, April 22, starting at 11 a.m.

Holyoke 13, Flatirons Academy 8

Flatirons Academy got the game going with four runs in the top of the first inning. Holyoke managed to score just two, so the Dragons trailed 4-2 going into the second. The Bison extended their lead to 6-2, but the home team kept battling and put the score at 6-5 by the end of the inning.

The third inning saw Flatirons remain scoreless, and Holyoke tied up the game with one run. Neither team scored in the fourth or fifth inning, but every play was fraught with the pressure that it could be the difference between winning and losing.
