Holyoke 13, Alliance 9

Timely hitting and late-inning power at the plate helped Holyoke put the Bulldogs away in the first game.

Lauren Herman hit a pair of two-run home runs in the game and sparked a rally in Holyoke’s five-run seventh inning to secure the win.

Despite Alliance’s defense retiring Holyoke’s first two batters of the game, the Dragons were able to rally with two outs in the first inning.

Herman got aboard with a single and advanced to second base when Correy Koellner was hit by a pitch. Three straight singles by Jimena Nuñez, Aliyah Engle and Emali Torres helped the Dragons score four runs in the top of the first inning.

Alliance answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.

Haley Van Overbeke got to first with a one-out single in the top of the second. Herman hit her first two-run home run to center field to expand Holyoke’s lead to 6-3. Nuñez rounded out the top of the second with an RBI single to give the Dragons a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the second inning.
