Holyoke tops Yuma for upset

Yuma’s football team was 6-1 going into its Oct. 21 home game against Holyoke, but the Dragons came out on top 21-17. The Dragon victory came after a string of three disappointing losses, making it extra sweet.

Other league games last weekend saw Limon beat Wiggins 34-14 and Wray beat Burlington 27-7. This coming weekend will mark the end of the regular season. Holyoke will host Burlington on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. On Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., Limon will host Yuma and Wiggins will host Wray.

This week’s games will determine seeding for postseason action. Although the Dragons are currently 3-5, the strength of their schedule means they are ranked 11th of Colorado’s 37 1A teams.

In Yuma, the game seemed quite evenly matched from the start. Due to a muffed punt, Yuma remained in possession of the ball for almost the entire first quarter. With 2:11 on the clock, Yuma made a 22-yard field goal, putting the first 3 points on the scoreboard.
