Holyoke track competes at St. Vrain, prepares to arrive at state

Last Saturday, May 13, the Holyoke Dragons competed at their previous track meet at St. Vrain before finalizing the state placements. Max Kleve was the only trackster that placed in this meet, taking fourth in the 400-meter dash at 50.54 seconds. 

The Dragons broke six personal records during this meet. Some include Chase Johnson, running at 11.55 seconds in the 100-meter dash; and Anessa Colglazier, running 13.51 seconds in the girls’ 100-meter dash. Courtlyn Kinnie threw the discus all the way to 99.25 feet. Trey Oakley ran 23.62 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Ben Kleve jumped over the 110-meter hurdles in 19.14 seconds. Reid Sprague jumped his best in the triple jump at 40 feet, 10.5 inches. The team placements are under confirmation.

Currently, 21 participants are set to arrive at state, either as competitors, managers or alternates. The competitors include Max Kleve, who will compete in four events, including the 100-meter dash; he currently ranks fourth. He also is set to compete in the 200-meter dash, where he is ranked fourth again; the 400-meter dash, where he is ranked second; and as the boys’ 4x400-meter anchor, where the relay team is ranked first in the state. 

Chase Johnson, who will compete in the high jump, is ranked 11th; and his 4x100-meter relay team is ranked sixth overall. Colby Weber also will compete in the high jump due to a 13th-place rank. Older brother Cash Weber is set to try his hand at the long jump, where he is ranked 12th in state; followed by Bryson Dirks in the same event, placed 14th overall.
