Horseshoe pitching marks 1 more year
Alvin Schumann of Haxtun not only headed up the horseshoe pitching competition Friday and Saturday, July 26-27, at the Phillips County Fair, but he also claimed first-place honors.
Mike Stanley of Littleton finished second, while a tie for third resulted between Larry Atkins of Haxtun and Natray Peregoy of Holyoke.
Schumann has been organizing the horseshoe pitching at the fair for more than 50 years — at least since 1965. He won his first trophy at age 7 and is still going strong at 75.
