Jan. 28 Nuggets Skills Challenge new to Holyoke

    Over the years, many Holyoke youth have participated in the Rockies Skills Challenge. This year, the free Nuggets Skills Challenge will give local kids the chance to test their basketball skills in a similar format.
    On Sunday, Jan. 28, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Holyoke High School new gym, those 6-13 years old will be tested in three areas. A course will be set up with cones to challenge dribbling skills. To demonstrate passing ability, participants will be aiming for targets from various distances. Rounding out the event, shooting will be completed from a number of places throughout the court.
    Participants will be divided into boys and girls in four age categories. Those in the 6-7-year-old range will use an 8-foot basket, while others will use the standard 10-foot goals. For the purpose of the competition, age is determined as of April 30, 2018.
