JH boys open Jan. 14; HS practices begin next week

With much anticipation, winter sports (known in 2020-21 as Season B) activities begin this month in Colorado.

In Holyoke, the junior high boys basketball team will open its season Thursday, Jan. 14, hosting Merino in the Dragon gym.

High school practice for boys and girls basketball, girls swimming, spirit and wrestling will begin Monday, Jan. 18, with competition starting the following week.

With renovations in Holyoke’s gym scheduled to begin the last week of January, the only home games in the new gym this year will be the JH games on Jan. 14 and 21. All other home JH games and all home HS basketball games and wrestling matches will be in the old gym.

The high school basketball teams will open the season Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Perkins County, in Grant, Nebraska. Wrestling opens with a Holyoke quad Thursday, Jan. 28, and the girls swim season begins at Eaton on Friday, Jan. 29. See next week’s Enterprise for season schedules.

Limited spectator capacity for sporting events

Holyoke activities director John Baumgartner noted this week that there will be limited spectator capacity for sporting events. Spectators will be required to wear masks and to remain social distanced.

A total of 50 spectators (for both teams) will be allowed to watch each game. Baumgartner said they will do a gate list and look to admit two parents per basketball player per game. They will clear the gym between games.
