Koellner continues throwing success

Continuing her season streak, Holyoke girls trackster Correy Koellner won the shot put event at the Tena Invitational last Saturday, April 13.
Koellner has pulled down first-place finishes in the shot put in all of the team’s four meets. She also broke a school record in the event at an April 6 home meet.
The rest of the girls team had a strong presence in the shot put event as well, with Lauren Herman finishing third and Emali Torres fourth.
MaxPreps’ updated records of stat leaders in 2A girls track shows Koellner leading the pack in both shot put and discus, while Taeryn Trumper heads the long jump marks for the season.
The top 18 in each event from throughout the season will qualify for the May 16-18 state championships.
Behind Koellner’s firsts in shot and discus, Holyoke has three more girls in the top 18 in the shot, with Torres in fourth, Herman 10th and Victoria Race 14th; and Herman is ranked sixth in discus.
Coach Corey Koberstein said the entire team benefitted from a sunny, windless meet last Saturday, and he sees many of Holyoke’s younger athletes starting to find their niches in the team.
Also finishing first was the girls 4x200 meter relay team, including Jessy Mosqueda, Emily Jelden, Koellner and Taeryn Trumper.
Out of eight teams, Chase County, Nebraska, won in the girls field with 251.66 points, followed by Wray 139.83, Holyoke 109, Lone Star 65, Yuma 47.5, Haxtun 46, Fleming 29 and Sedgwick County 10.
In a nine-team field, Chase County boys earned 242 points, followed by Wray 121, Yuma 99, Holyoke 90, Lone Star 33, Idalia 28, Sedgwick County 18, Haxtun 18 and Fleming 14.
