Lady Dragon softball goes 2-2 last week

Holyoke softball won two and lost two in last week’s action to keep their season record even at 5-5.

They swept Chase County in Imperial, Nebraska, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, winning 12-2 and 16-8. On Thursday, Sept. 2, they were swept by Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on the home field, falling 15-0 and 14-1.

“The girls came together and played a lot better,” coach Sherman Kage said of the Chase County games, noting that they played well both offensively and defensively.

He noted that it was nice to see the girls regain some discipline at the plate, get some hits they needed and put some more games in the win column.

He acknowledged that in Thursday’s games, the girls faced the best pitching they’ve seen so far when they played Scottsbluff.

He said although they made some errors, he thought the girls played well against a well-disciplined, good place-hitting Scottsbluff team that hits the ball in the gaps.

Kage said the Holyoke players will be working on defensive bunt coverage and a lot of hitting to make sure they’re seeing the ball well and getting their timing back.
