Lady Dragons 2nd at Haxtun Relays

One of the region’s favorite track meets, the Haxtun Relays, was revived last week at the Holyoke track Tuesday, April 26.

At this particular track meet, individual participants did not earn points for their team. Instead, the top two or three participants for each school in each event combined their times, distances or heights for a group effort to earn points for their team.

Out of 10 teams, the Lady Dragons took second place with 89 points, and the Holyoke boys claimed fifth with 66 points.

“We had a lot of fun,” said coach Corey Koberstein, noting that many Holyoke athletes participated in events they had never done before in order to have three Dragons represented.

As an example, Cash Weber competed in the long jump, which he had never done before, and he had the second best distance of the day. Ironically, he also has one of the best distances in the state.

Holyoke tracksters who topped the competition individually Tuesday include Chase Johnson in the high jump, Tayla Martin in the 400 meter run, Lauren Herman in the discus, Correy Koellner in the shot put, and the girls 4x100 meter relay team of Ava Koberstein, Linda Esser, Koellner and Martin.
