Lady Dragons go big or go home

    The Lady Dragon varsity basketball team not only won two league games last weekend, they won in a big way!
    In Wiggins Friday, Feb. 2, Holyoke won 51-9, and in Akron the following day, HHS brought home a 56-14 victory.
    “We are definitely trending in the right direction,” said coach John Baumgartner, who was very pleased with the girls’ performance over the weekend.
    He praised the defensive effort that kept their opponents’ scores so low and noted that team members — both starters and those going into the game off the bench — contributed to great offensive games.
    The two wins improve the Lady Dragon record to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in league games.
    
Holyoke 51, Wiggins 9
    If it wasn’t clear from the 42-point lead on the scoreboard, coach Baumgartner re-emphasized that Holyoke attacked the basket well in Friday’s game against Wiggins.
    Holyoke scored 29 points in the first half, followed by another 22 in the second. As a team, that included 15 2s, three 3s and 12 for 20 from the line.
    In the meantime, Dragon defense kept working hard. The girls limited Wiggins to only two field goals — one in the first quarter and another in the final period. Five free throws rounded out the Wiggins score to nine points for the game.
