Lady Dragons look for another state appearance
After qualifying for state in the spring of 2021 and then earning state runner-up honors in the fall of 2021, the thought of not going to state this season isn’t even an option for the Lady Dragons volleyball team.
“They got a taste of it,” said head coach Irene Ortega, and they want more. State is scheduled for Nov. 10-12.
This is the first year as head coach for Ortega, a Holyoke High School alum, and her third year with the Lady Dragons program, although she brings many years of coaching experience with a variety of age levels.
Ashley Hoffner is returning as the assistant coach.
Since practice started Aug. 8, the team has been focusing on finding a rotation that works for them and fixing their tempo. This year will be all about being more strategic on the court, said Ortega.
