Lady Dragons pull together for 5-set victory over defending state champs

The match went to five sets, but the Lady Dragons got the job done when they beat Wiggins on the road Friday, Oct. 15.

The team was confident heading into the game against the defending state champions, said coach Michelle Vieselmeyer.

That mindset propelled Holyoke to two big wins in the opening sets: 25-18 and 25-13.

However, the girls found themselves committing errors across the board in the next two sets, which Wiggins won 25-16 and 25-14.

“It would have been really easy for them to quit,” said Vieselmeyer. “They didn’t quit, and I was proud of them.”

The Lady Dragons pulled it together for a 15-11 victory in the fifth set to win the match.

It showed a lot of character for them to rally together after losing the third and fourth sets, added the coach. “We had some really great moments and some not so great moments.”
