Lady Dragons top Estes Park, Valley

In swimming action with Estes Park and Valley on Thursday, Feb. 4, at Estes Park, Holyoke earned dual wins over both, defeating Estes Park 59-38 and topping Valley 63-27.

“Even without divers, the Holyoke ladies dominated nine of the 12 events, taking first-place finishes in all three relays, a first and second in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and top honors in the 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke,” said coach Aly Brinkema.

She noted that Holyoke hasn’t competed in Estes Park for many years due to the travel time required.

“I was concerned about the four-hour bus ride and higher altitude affecting the swimmers both physically and mentally, but the HHS swimmers stepped up beautifully and raced their way to a double win,” Brinkema added.

While the competition was scored in duals, all three teams swam against each other in the races last week.
