Larry Struckmeyer to be honored at NBC World Series in Wichita

Larry Struckmeyer of Colby, Kansas, has been selected by Area Agencies on Aging in Kansas to be honored as “Keeping Seniors in the Game!” first pitcher at the 7 p.m. feature game of the National Baseball Congress World Series Sunday, Aug. 5. The 84th NBC World Series happens at Wichita’s Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Games began July 27 and continue through Saturday, Aug. 11.
Struckmeyer was born in Holyoke and graduated from Phillips County High School. He earned a degree in fertilizer technology from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and moved to Kansas in 1985.
While Struckmeyer was in school, the only baseball in Holyoke was American Legion ball. He played for two years. Now he enjoys watching grandkids play T-ball and Little League. His favorite baseball memory is playing pasture baseball with his dad. During one game, his dad was playing outfield and spied a jackrabbit under a weed. He grabbed the jackrabbit and brought it in with him when the inning was over.
