Low-scoring Wiggins game gets HHS girls to district tourney

Knowing it was a make-it or break-it game, the Lady Dragon varsity basketball team pulled through for a 28-14 win over Wiggins Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Since Holyoke was ranked No. 3 and Wiggins was No. 6, the Lady Dragons got to host the game in front of a supportive home crowd.
“We knew what was at stake,” said coach John Baumgartner. If the girls had lost, their season would have been over.
“They had nothing to lose,” he said of Wiggins. “And they didn’t make things easy for us.”
With only single-digit scores in all four quarters, the Lady Dragons had trouble shooting the ball and connecting with the basket. Fortunately, Wiggins did too.
Holyoke scored seven in the first period and eight in the second while keeping Wiggins to single field goals in each of the first-half quarters.
Both teams scored six in the third quarter for a score of 21-10 heading into the fourth. The Dragons outscored the Tigers 7-4 for the 28-14 win.
Senior Grace Dille led Holyoke’s scoring effort with 10 points, including four 2-pointers and two for two from the line. She also had eight rebounds, one blocked shot and four assists.
Kaylee Camblin and Taeryn Trumper each grabbed three steals.
