Martin qualifies for state swim in season opener

This past week, the Holyoke High School swim team competed in its first meet of the season. Holyoke joined 18 other schools at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton on Dec. 3 for the Legacy Invite. Holyoke certainly was one of the smaller teams at the meet, with its three swimmers competing in just four of the 12 events.

Leading Holyoke’s efforts was junior Tayla Martin, who finished 11th in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 0:26.14 means she qualified for state in that event. Also competing in the 50 free were Addie Goldenstein with a time of 0:28.89 and Aly Lock at 0:30.87.

Goldenstein also swam in the 100-yard freestyle and clocked a time of 1:05.53, and Lock competed in the 100-yard backstroke and finished with a time of 1:19.08.

In addition to recognizing Martin’s state-qualifying time, Coach Dani Brandt commended Goldenstein for cutting time in both of her events.
