Mosqueda takes 4th in girls state wrestling

In the first of two pilot years for a girls state wrestling tournament in Colorado, Holyoke senior Jessy Mosqueda marked HHS history by placing fourth in the 100-lb. weight division.
Eight girls in each of 10 weight divisions qualified for the 1A-5A state tourney, held at Thornton High School Saturday, Feb. 9.
Mosqueda’s third-place regional finish advanced her to the state mats in the inaugural year.
“She just turned up the level,” said coach Dusty McConnell, citing that it’s so hard to explain how Mosqueda came from a sixth-grade wrestler to her senior year.
“She has come so far in this sport and has helped it,” added McConnell.
Mosqueda claimed a 7-3 win in her first match Saturday but met up with the same opponent in her final match, where she lost a close 3-5 decision.
