Newly formed booster club begins school year with golf tourney

With the new school year rapidly approaching, the Dragon Booster Club has been formed again to support students at Holyoke JR/SR High in athletics and drama.
In recent years, separate organizations existed to support the football and basketball teams. This year, the Dragon Hoopsters and the Dragon Fan Club voted to disperse and donate their funds to the new booster club to support students in all the sports offered, as well as the drama department.
To kick off the school year and the formation of the new club, a fundraiser golf tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, at Holyoke Golf Club. Registration or donations should be done by Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The booster club’s first meeting was held July 16, where Marla Camblin was elected president, Gordon Hielscher vice president, and Linda Jelden and Trudy Herman directors. Positions are still open for treasurer and two additional directors. Community members interested in those roles should contact any of the elected officials by Aug. 8 to be added to the slate of candidates for election at the next meeting, which will be conducted at the fall sports parent meeting Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. in the HHS auditorium. Monthly meetings will be held throughout the year, and those interested in becoming members can do so at any time.
