Older, wiser, stronger
Winter sports appear to be back to normal, and Holyoke girls basketball coach John Baumgartner is just hoping that it will stay that way.
The Lady Dragons will kick off their season in St. Francis, Kansas, on Friday, Dec. 3, at 3:30 p.m. The first home game is Saturday, Dec. 4, with Dayspring Christian at 2 p.m.
Next week, Holyoke will travel to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling on Tuesday, Dec. 7, for 4 p.m. games against Byers and will host Sedgwick County on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m.
“We are a year older, wiser and stronger,” Baumgartner said. The team has its sights set on the state tournament, hoping for a better outcome than the past two years.
If you’ll recall, the Lady Dragons’ nearly perfect 23-1 2019-20 season was abruptly ended when the state tournament was canceled after one round of play — thanks to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
