Penzing places 2nd, cards personal best at Wray

It’s been a wild season for girls golf, with more tournaments canceled than have been attended. On April 16, the Holyoke High School team traveled to Wray Country Club for their third event of the season.
The Dragons highlight was a career low by Dominique Penzing at 97. It earned her second place in the tournament, and coach Nick Flaa said it was by far the best score she’s had. “Dominique has really worked hard the last couple weeks, even staying later after practice to work on her approach shots and short game,” Flaa said. On Monday, Penzing got to see that practice pay off.
Flaa pointed out that the team has really been focusing on their approach shots to the green because that’s where they’ve been giving away the most shots. “Figuring out a consistent shot from that distance can save you 10, 15 shots a round with the numbers that we are posting, and today Dominique really applied it to her game,” he said. “As a coach, seeing that kind of improvement gives you goosebumps,” he added.
