Pine Bluffs Hornets win 61-52 on Saturday

Getting the basketball season started back up after the holidays, Holyoke High School hosted Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, on Jan. 4. In the varsity boys game, the visiting Hornets beat the Dragons 61-52.

Each quarter of the game saw the two teams neck and neck, with the largest gap being in the fourth quarter when Pine Bluffs outscored Holyoke by six points. In a close game, those small deficits added up to a nine-point loss for HHS.

In the first quarter of Saturday’s game, the Hornets wasted no time in showing their prowess from outside. Their 15 points included four 3-pointers. Holyoke trailed just slightly having put up 13 points, including a pair of threes by Ethan Johnson.

Pine Bluffs extended its lead by another two points in the second quarter, scoring 21. Across the roster, the Dragons made field goals and free throws, including another 3 by Johnson, racking up 19 points of their own.

Back from halftime and down 36-32, HHS outscored Pine Bluffs 10-9 in the third quarter. Miles Sprague and Johnson each hit a 3. On the Hornet side, most of the quarter’s points came from the foul line.
